Club Night

Our club night is every Monday night at Moire Park. Warm-ups for the athletes start at 5:15pm, followed by the events at 5:30pm.  You can view the club night programmes here once we confirm the programmes for this season.

Athletics will continue in the rain, unless it is torrential, or unless the council have closed our fields.  If a club night is rained out, the programme is carried over to the following week.  If you are unsure of a cancellation, please check the Facebook page after 3:30pm.  It will be a normal club night on public holidays.

CHILDREN AGED 2 - 3 YEARS OLD (at Dec 31st 2020)
We have a special grade for 2 and 3 year olds... "THE MIGHTY MINI'S"
The Mighty Mini's have 3 races (30M, 60M, and 100M) and a field event (Long Jump or Hacky Sack throw).
The Mighty Mini's grade is all parent managed, so please make sure you step up and enjoy athletics with your 'Mini-Me'.
Please note that Athletics is FREE for 2 and 3 year olds, so there is no need to register and they do not need a uniform.  Simply turn up on the club night and let them loose.

CHILDREN AGED 4 - 9 YEARS OLD
Children who are 4 - 9 years old (at Dec 31st 2020) compete in their age group each club night over 4 events that they will rotate through week to week on a 4 programme basis.  Athletes who place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in an event get points that accumulate over the season to find the overall top 3 athletes in each grade.

CHILDREN AGED 10 - 14 YEARS OLD
Children who are 10 - 14 years old (at Dec 31st 2020) compete in their age group each club night over 5 events that they will rotate through week to week on a 4 programme basis.  Athletes who place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in an event get points that accumulate over the season to find the overall top 3 athletes in each grade.

All children in the above grades must be fully registered to compete for points on club nights.  To find out more information about registration, please refer to the 'Registration' page on this website.  If you have any further questions, feel free to email your enquiries to massey.athletics@gmail.com

Club Championships for the 2020 - 2021 Season will be held around February/March 2021 (date TBA).  Club Champs will be held on a Saturday or Sunday, depending on field availability and alignment with the Athletics Auckland Calendar.
Club Champs are open to all fully registered athletes who have attended at least 5 club nights.

To enter Club Champs, you must fill out an entry form (see above).  Simply download the pdf file above, print it, fill it in and either bring it to Club Night closer to February/March and hand to a committee member, or scan the completed form to massey.athletics@gmail.com by the alotted time.  Times and dates for this will be posted once a date for the event is confirmed during the season.

Children may enter up to 5 events.  A draft programme will be available on this page closer to the event date.  The final version of the programme is not published until all entries have been processed.

Closing date TBA.

Full club uniform must be worn on these day, including a valid Age Patch.  Any athlete not in full club uniform will be scratched from their events.  Please note that red club uniform shorts must be worn and the only exception to this is that black spanx/bike shorts can be worn by athletes 12 years or older.  This does not include any other type of black shorts, i.e. rugby shorts and does not include any other colours.

We need alot of parent help to run all of the events efficiently!  Club Champs are the only time of the season where club records can be broken and as such we need to ensure timing of track events and measuring of field events are accurate and not rushed.  Ideally we need to have 4 people officiating all field events. and as many people as possible performing end of track and timing.

These are fun family days - ideal for grandparents and friends to attend as spectators.  Bring a picnic or enjoy food from our BBQ.

Prize giving of certificates will take place at the end-of-year prize giving.

Coaching

All ages and abilities are welcome and encouraged to do additional training over and above the club night events.

We run coaching sessions during the athletics season on Wednesdays at 5:30pm (TBC).  Children are not required to wear their uniform.  Please ensure that all children attending have plenty of water, a sun hat, sun block, and a piece of fruit for after training.

As with any sport, regular training in athletics can help to improve knowledge and skills in each athletic event and has many benefits, including:
  • learning life-long fitness skills
  • self-discipline through training
  • improving technique and performance
  • increasing event specific fitness, power, and stamina
  • preparing for competitions
Any parents who are willing to assist with coaching an event on Wednesdays are welcome and your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
