20th February 2012 Volunteers help to run the Massey Athletic Club. The committee would like to thank all those who help each week. The winners of the Club Volunteer Prizes this week are: Joe Black and Jan Patterson. Also, special thanks to our sponsors for providing the prizes. Athletics trophies: If you have any of the Massey Athletic Club trophies, it would be appreciated if you could please return them as soon as possible. Top 10 Team: The team photo will be taken on Monday. 27th February at 4:50pm, so please make sure that you are there! West Auckland Interclub Competition: Well done to all the West Auckland Teams who competed in this fun competition! Massey A Team - 1st!! Waitakere A Team - 2nd Waitakere B Team - 3rd Massey B Team - 4th Glen Eden - 5th Te Atatu - 6th Avondale - 7th Auckland Junior 2000m and 3000m Championships: Well done to the 7 athletes who competed in this event! Four Massey athletes received medals and all athletes did PBs! Congratulations to Natalia Lunny for winning the 10 Girls 2000m, Tobi Blaser for placing 2nd in the 11 Boys 2000m, Blake Spurdle for placing 3rd in the 12 Boys 3000m, and Helena Spurdle for placing 2nd in the 14 Girls 3000m!! Auckland Junior Championships: 7-9 year olds Qualifying Day - Saturday, 3rd March at Waitakere Stadium at 9am. Entries are now closed. The top 8 athletes in each field event qualify for the Auckland Championship Day on March 17th. The top 16 athletes in each track event qualify for the Auckland Championship Day on March 17th. 10-14 year olds - Saturday, 17th March at Mt Smart, starting at 8am. You can enter up to 5 events and the cost is $5 per event. Entries close Monday, 27th February. Club Championships: will be held on Monday, 5th March and Monday, 12th March. These are the only days that athletes can break club records. Entry forms must be in by Monday, 27th February. You can enter up to 5 events.
Whenuapai Half Marathon: The 25th Whenuapai Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, 1st April 2012. The Whenuapai Half Marathon is an event organised by members of the Massey Athletic Club. The proceeds from this annual event are the main source of revenue that enable the Massey Athletic Club to keep costs low so that more children can participate in athletics and cross country running. Volunteers help to run the Massey Athletic Club. The committee would like to thank all those who help each week. The winners of the Club Volunteer Prizes this week are: Bronwyn Print and Heather Collings. Also, special thanks to our sponsors for providing the prizes. Auckland Junior Pentathlon: Well done to all the athletes who represented our club at the Pentathlon. We had a record of 34 athletes who came to compete. Well done to Brearna Fearnley who came 2nd in the 11 Girls, Liam van der Boom who came 2nd in the 12 Boys, Miriam Burden who came 2nd in the 14 Girls, and Helena Spurdle who came 3rd in the 14 Girls! Athletics trophies: If you have any of the Massey Athletic Club trophies, it would be appreciated if you could please return them as soon as possible. Athletes accumulate individual points for each event and they get an overall placing at the end of the competition. There is extra training for shot put on Wednesdays at 4:45pm and for discus on Fridays at 4:45pm. All the best to the 34 athletes who are going to represent Massey at this competition. Massey Open Day: The Massey Open Day was a great success! The Massey 4x400m Relay was won by the Massey team for the second year in a row!! Congratulations to Brad Campbell, Helena Spurdle, Cheryl Taumafai, and Liam van der Boom for their awesome team effort! Also a huge thankyou to all the people who helped out on the day. And thankyou to all the athletes for coming along to support the club. It was the biggest turn-out of Massey athletes that we have ever had. We hope that all the athletes had a fun time.

Massey Open Day: Our open day is on Saturday, 21st January at 10am at Moire Park. This even is open to all athletes in Auckland or the wider North Island area. Even though this event goes all day, you don't have to stay for the whole time and you can choose which events you would like to do. Open days are a lot of fun, and it's always nice to get the ribbons for placing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd! The special Massey 4 x 400m relay will also be held in the middle of the day. Each team must have 2 boys and two girls between 10-14 years olds. The winning team will receive medals and the Massey 4 x 400m Relay Trophy. So come along and support your club and our relay team!
